Accommodation in Casa di Gallo
The house, although over 200 years old, offers modern conveniences and flexibility, whether you are a family, a couple, a writer or an artist. All the rooms are located on the first and second floors of the main house and the thick old walls keep the heat outside in the summer and inside during the winter:
: This spacious and light room has large triple-aspect windows with magnificent panoramic views over the surrounding countryside, a large dining room table that extends to ten, comfortable sofas, a log fire, an extensive library of books on Italian history, wine, and cooking and comprehensive information on the area, activities and restaurants. There is also an ipod docking system, CD player, DVD player and DVD library.
Adjacent to the dining room is a fully fitted kitchen with doors leading to a small terrace. A few steps lead down to a garden area at the side of the house where a wooden pergola with old vines provides a perfect spot for al fresco dining. Modern amenities include an oven, two fridges, coffee machine, washing machine, a hairdryer, dishwasher, international adaptors,a liquidiser, and a pasta machine for those who enjoy making their own fresh pasta.
The main house has four large bedrooms (two doubles and two twins plus an additional single bed): two overlooking the sunny courtyard, with traditional vaulted ceilings, one looking west and the other the mountains. After a long day of wine tasting or sunbathing we believe that it's essential to come home to hot showers, fluffy towels, comfortable beds and luxurious sheets - those 300 thread count Egyptian cotton ones made in Italy. The master bed is over two metres long and there are two modern bathrooms, one with double washbasins and both fitted with showers and loos, and 'all enveloping' fluffy FRETTE towels.
: The large courtyard in front of the house is great for sunbathing, relaxing, eating, reading and enjoying a cold glass of Prosecco. We also have the portico for shaded or candle-lit meals. As well as the pergola outside the kitchen, there is a seperate "rustico" which can be used as a quiet studio for budding writers or artists or as a children's club house (our kids play Secret Seven in there). We also have sunloungers, garden tables and chairs, a petanque court, a table tennis table, a barbeque, a wood to explore, wildlife to watch, fruit to pick, and, finally, a garage to keep cars cool and out of sight.
We have some children's DVD's, a range of toys and games, a liquidiser, baby bath, highchair, table booster seat and bed side rail. We should soon also have a wooden cot.
